Nuna TRVL lx vs Nuna VIAA cabn

The VIAA cabn is $50 cheaper at $550 against $600, and the better flyer on paper: folded it measures 20.5 x 16.5 x 9.5 inches, 2.5 inches over the carry-on box on its worst side, against the TRVL lx at 14.25 x 21 x 27 and 7 over. The TRVL lx is lighter at 14.6 lb to 16.3, though Nuna's number leaves out about 2.4 lb of canopy and arm bar. Both click a Pipa on directly without adapters and fold with one hand. For the baby, the TRVL lx has a near-flat recline and a calf support that raises into carriage position, good from birth; the VIAA page makes no from-birth claim, and newborns ride in the Pipa. The VIAA has a published basket capacity of 22 lb and the TRVL lx has none. Frequent flyers get a stroller $50 cheaper and 4.5 inches closer to the carry-on box in the VIAA; the TRVL lx's newborn recline is what its extra money buys.

Folded, the Nuna VIAA cabn makes a 1.86 cu ft box to the Nuna TRVL lx's 4.68 cu ft. Neither fits a 22 x 14 x 9 in carry-on sizer: the Nuna TRVL lx misses by 7 in and the Nuna VIAA cabn by 2.5 in. The Nuna TRVL lx is 1.7 lb lighter by its maker's figure (14.6 lb to 16.3 lb). The Nuna TRVL lx is newborn-ready as sold; the Nuna VIAA cabn needs a bassinet, insert or infant car seat for the first months.

Nuna TRVL lx: what it gives up

  • 14.6 lb excludes about 2.4 lb of canopy and arm bar
  • Folded height of 27 inches is tall for a travel stroller
  • Owners mostly gate-check it rather than fitting it in an overhead bin
  • Owners, mostly of the earlier TRVL, say the seat never sits fully upright; Nuna says the LX recline runs to upright

Nuna VIAA cabn: what it gives up

  • Folded size misses a 22 x 14 x 9 inch carry-on box on width and depth, despite the cabin claim
  • No from-birth seat claim; newborns ride in a PIPA
  • Fold figures assume the arm bar is removed
